Technology- Facebook Pages

I explored a couple of Facebook Library Pages, but I ended up focusing on three of these pages. I navigated the Desert Foothills Library page, the Pasadena High School Library page, and J. Frank Dobie High School Library page. These library pages explore different topics, ideas, and themes within the Library Science World, or I should also say, "Reading World." I learned that Facebook library pages are extremely user friendly. I'm new to Facebook and I was successful navigating it. I learned so much and found intriguing information about some of my favorite topics. I used what I learned from these pages to create my own Facebook Library Page.

The first thing I found on these Library pages were beautiful cover photos and logos of their library. This proves that these School Library Pages are appealing and not boring. The library pages had several photos from funny quotes to educative images. It had sections for viewers to post comments, but one library page had very few comments posted. It didn't have a high volume of visitors yet, compared to the other two library pages I visited. I also discovered that these library pages promote dates for upcoming conferences such as: Secrets of the Rocketfeller Trust. I also discovered library's times of service, a map for their location, and their contact information. I liked that one library posted the time remaining for closing the library for the day. I also learned that these library pages post their story times in case parents would like to take their children for story time at their library. I also read many of the comments found on these library pages and one was asking to consider adding Edith Maxwell's fiction mystery novels to one of the libraries, there was one review posted so far. These library pages also invite visitors to buy books from amazon.com through their link as their library gets 0.5% of the purchases donated to them. I also found a flyer inviting its viewers to join Writers Connections. I then read on upcoming events on Summer Reading Programs and their dates. Other things I noticed posted by these library pages were links to reading blogs, movie news, educational careers, high school reading lists, and more reading lists for the summer for teenagers. If these are your interests go ahead and start searching these library pages. I really enjoyed going thru some of their links such as the link to SYNC YA Literature into your headphones! This link offers free downloadable audio books for young adults. I also found excellent links to book review sites. If you need to download free audio books this is your link.

After navigating these library pages, I learned that using Facebook to promote the libraries is an excellent idea! I loved the experience and I learned different things I was not aware of such as the links to downloading free audio books. It is a form of reaching those patrons that never go to a library, but thru Facebook they can be reached and this way they get to know what their libraries are about. Facebook library pages provides its viewers full free access to educative information. Facebook pages makes it easier for Librarians to borrow important sites, links, quotes, photos and share them on their library page so that their viewers can benefit form all of that information too.

As far as any downsides, as a future Librarian creating the page, time has to be carefully managed, as the pages are time consuming and they need to be updated and reviewed in order to keep viewers interested and return to visit the page. Another concern may be that if Facebook friends don't recommend the page to be viewed, it may not be viewed or found, unless viewers search for library pages the same way I found these pages. If someone is not part of the Facebook family, the library pages cannot be seen. I'm new to Facebook and I had never encountered library pages before joining Facebook. Over all, advertising libraries via Facebook holds more advantages than disadvantages and I will advertise my library thru Facebook Library Pages.

Go ahead and start searching for school libraries under Facebook library pages. I had a blast exploring these pages. They are extremely easy to navigate. You will sure encounter different educational links, favorite reads, technology links, and trendy authors' stories in addition to other Library topics. You can start with my library page and get a feel of what you may find at other similar library pages. I borrowed links and information from other library pages, which I thought would benefit my visitors.
