What is a
Podcast?
I learned that a Podcast is a digital recording of a
radio broadcast or similar program, and it’s available on the Internet for
downloading to a personal audio player. Basically, it is a digital audio file
that’s created, shared, and heard. I explored Soundcloud, Audioboom, Podomatic,
and Audacity. I’ve used Audacity before and it’s simple to use, but takes
longer to use since it requires you to upload audio on MP3, which is an extra
step. I tried creating my Podcast using Podomatic, I have an account, but it
never directed me to my channel, so I decided to use Audioboom. Audioboom was
easier to use than Audacity for sure. On Audioboom, as soon as you are in your
account channel, just hit the record red button and within a second you can
start recording. If you have a free account, you can only record audio for up
to 10 minutes, if you need more recording time, then you would need to upgrade.
Libraries, schools, and educators are now using Podcasts
as a tool to teach in their classrooms. There are several ways these talented
teachers and students are using Podcasts. Based on my readings, I learned that
some teachers are having their students record their assignments,
presentations, and projects. I read that a teacher has her drama students use audio
platforms to record themselves as they practice their drama scripts and then
she has the students listen to them so they can hear where they need to act
with higher pitch voices or change their tones. Librarians are using them for
book talks, storytelling, book reviews, and to promote the library’s
newsletter. Principals use Podcasts for professional development and trainings.
Reading teachers use them to promote readings of book passages to demonstrate
skills.
I created my Podcast on Audioboom under storytelling. Storytelling
Podcasts can also be used for one of those days that you can’t be there to
share the story in person. I invite you to listen to my Podcast as I read one
of my favorite stories to my students. I sure enjoyed this experience.

This is a great idea! How fun! i enjoyed your podcast and also I think all the sounds are particularly wonderful. Thanks for sharing this with us!
ReplyDeleteI love read-aloud time and I sure miss teaching lower grades. I do have read-aloud time using chapter books with my block students, the students I have for two class periods on a row. They love it.
